Do you have a technique to get your point across to people for when you want to be diplomatic and subtle?

Well for instance an incident where I saw the Chief Boson's Mate call a junior commissioned officer 'an idiot'  right to his face.
That would be an example of the opposite of diplomatic and subtle; bluntness.

You said you did not understand TM's answer, KG was trying to explain using an example.

I always try to be respectful. To give respect where it's due. Almost everyone deserves a measure of respect. However, if giving respect includes sacrificing the truth in any form, I want no part of it. For me, honesty holds a much higher place than respect. :)
