    Not sure how it's an upgrade of the LHC.
    I heard it's just a telescope that uses thermal imaging.  (Even though it is 3x the size of the Hubble telescope.)

    The more we understand the universe, the more we understand science - which leads to technological progress.
    Which may help us one day leave this planet and colonize others.

    They want to expend more energy into particle collisions in order to refine their knowledge about the properties of the particles. All very interesting.
    And much more than that of course too.
