If I knew how to do it myself, I wouldn't need to buy them.

There are reasons I am a grammar cop and you're a civilian. Harrumph. Grrrrrrr.

That's only according to the dictionary.  Here on the Mug, there is apparently a higher authority.

I've found that steaming works well. Little water in bottom of the pan, steamer basket. I think once the H20 is boiling I do 12 minutes, but I always double-check via Google. Steaming seems to make them easier to peel.

Just leave it in salted water in the pan on full heat. It should be hard by the time you wake up.

Cooking for the wife used to be fun; I had to time it so that her one was soft but not runny, mine hard and remember which was which.

Put the egg into a pot of cold water. If it floats, chuck it.
Bring to the boil. For softboiled eggs, let boil for one minute. For hard whites and soft centres, leave in boiling water for another minute. For hardboiled, leave in for at least another minute, to as long as you like - but don't let the pot boil dry.
