What is a book you started to read approximately 10 years ago or more, didn’t like it, and never tried it again?

For me, it was “Lord Jim” by Conrad (published in the year 1900). I found its prose, or diction, far too stilted, archaic and difficult to decipher, and as such, it was not enjoyable to read.

The Brothers Karamazov. I just couldn't get into it at all. I don't know what purpose pre-Soviet Russian literature was supposed to serve, but it can't be entertainment.

It hasn't been ten years but I tried to read Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut and it just wasn't going to happen.  Every time I opened that book I would remember something that I needed to be doing.  I think I cleaned the house a few times before I gave up.

Maybe a really large very old book from a second hand that have no picture, that is really complicated to figure out, that's strictly educational.

Remembrance of Times Past by Proust (in translation).

There are also a couple of Russian novels that I gave up on, it being less laborious to read a trannslation.

I tried reading this book in the mental hospital and things didn't go very well. It was the last novel I've ever tried to read. 1300 pages!
