    It has reached the end of its utility.  Or, you could just say it has arrived at the end of its winter.

    Back before cars were built for driving on snow and ice, people would own a car like that to drive in bad weather so that they wouldn't risk damage to their good car. These cars were called 'beaters' or 'winter beaters'.

    I've never heard that before.  Common sense.  But today insurance rates would preclude many of us from being able to justify the expense.   I do miss winters.  My family has just  bought an old house about 1000 miles north of here so we can run from hurricanes and enjoy some cool weather and Autumn colors when we want to.
