A question about buying fresh, uncooked chicken in grocery stores:

When did the option to buy one complete, cut-into-parts, fresh, uncooked chicken disappear in grocery stores?

I now only see packages of only thighs, only wings, only legs, only breasts, etc. I have a recipe I like that is best with a variety of parts. Oh, well.

Then buy multiple packages or hit up a butcher shop. I've never seen what you refer to.

I guess I just remember seeing whole-chicken-but-cut-parts packages until the last year or so and I don't see them anymore in stores in my area. Yeah, hadn't really thought of butchers. Most likely, I'd just make that recipe with tights, ha.
    :)

You're  right, and for families where not everyone  likes the same parts, that could be inconvenient. In most supermarkets where they do their own butchering, you can ask them for what you need.

Yes, I guess I hadn't thought of just asking at the stores, ha.  :) This post was edited by WelbyQuentin at March 12, 2022 12:37 PM MST

We can still get whole chickens at the store here.
Likely because of covid. Your area much not sell as many whole chickens so they are not ordering them.
In my area, we can not get sandwich bread.  (The bread that has more of a flat top intead of a round or split top) Sandwich bread is my favorite.

      “Sandwich bread is my favorite.”

You and I should run off together.

    (Hey, wait . . . )

You can make me as many sandwiches as you want. But remember I need at least 2 at a time....my husband likes them too.

Yeah, hadn't thought about covid, yet, I'm thinking I noticed it maybe before covid? Maybe not, though.
Makes sense that the demand for it is not high.

EDIT: I didn't say that too well -- what I meant was that your point makes sense about perhaps the demand not being high for that kind of packaged chicken.
