“You ever eat a pine tree? Some parts ARE edible.” Do you remember these lines from 1970s TV commercial?

 

  Euell Gibbons, an elderly man who touted nature and the healthiness of natural foods, spoke those words or similar on a series of advertisements for Grape Nuts breakfast cereal.

    I do love pine nuts (pignoli)   They are in the cones and are actually seeds.

    Those look raw, I prefer them roasted. A proper pesto isn't complete without roasted pignoli.

  • For someone who encouraged folks to eat healthy and exercise, it appears he died at 64.  Maybe he choked on a high bush cranberry.
