Does your city/town/region have something unusual/unique that few outside your area would know about?

One of Toledo's nicknames is 'Frogtown'.

I doubt that many people outside of San Diego know how bad and rampant the homeless situation is here. Grrrrrrr.

I thought that was everywhere. We have the same problem, but, being much smaller the SD, we have a lot fewer.

The weather is a natural draw for many people to come to San Diego either temporarily or permanently. I am one such person who took the weather into consideration when I left military service and chose to remain here rather than return to the Midwest with its cold, dreary, overcast, snowy, icy winters. Those without homes who come from far away, or who lose homes while here fare a little better in the elements than in other certain locales.

We're proud of our homeless "situation" here.  Why, we purposely built a homeless shelter right next to a grocery and drug store so the homeless would be sure to have a place to wash up and steal things each day.

Very little traffic, clean air, people and their families who have lived here their whole lives, lots of undeveloped land, not many homeless.

Things both widely known and unknown.

I really like this nickname and am curious about its origin! Would you educate us on that, if you're aware?

I have no clue. Someone created large concrete frogs, painted them and put them downtown.

    Cool. Are they still well-maintained?

“Unfortunitaly”? Is that even a real word? Unfortunately.

There is a neighborhood in St. Paul, Minnesota  called Frogtown. It was originally a marshy area and was named for the large number of frogs found there. Maybe Toledo has a similar story.

    Yes, it could be that.

I really like frogs. I wish their skin wasn't so delicate that touching/holding them can potentially compromise their health.

I just looked up why we are called 'Frogtown'. This area, before settlement, was called 'The Great Black Swamp', and had a large number of frogs and other various swamp and wetland creatures. Much of that land has been preserved and reclaimed.

Thanks for the update! Good to hear about the reclaimed land. Public land and natural areas are so important.

Adelaide is a city with BIG BALLS.

Also in the hills behind, at Gumeracha, there's the world's biggest Rocking Horse.

There are six Lustron homes in a row on one block in Minneapolis.  Many locals aren't even aware of this. Only half of the 3000 Lustron homes originally built to mitigate the post-WWII housing crisis in the U5 are still standing. They are made of enameled steel, inside and out and are said to be maintenence-free.

This is intriguing! I'm probably going to have to image and information search this at some point.

Baltimore has an entire side street where graffiti is not only legal but where graffiti artists are encouraged to paint its walls.
