Guess who is not as stupid as they thought?

You will never guess so I will just tell you its me. I have always used a land line phone but a few days ago I got a smartphone.  I put off using it because I thought I would have a hard time figuring out how to use it. But today I gave it a go and tried calling our son. The person that answered the call started talking in Spanish and I thought I goofed up and called someone in Mexico. Turned out are son answers all the phone numbers he doesn't recognise in Spanish in case its spam. I think I am going to find out that I really love having a smartphone. Cheers!

May I ask which phone you got?  I absolutely, positively must get a new one and I'm stumped as to what to get since I'm such a technophobe.

It is a Samsung Galaxy. It can do a lot of cool things like eye or finger print recognising. Cheers!

I also have a Samsung Galaxy. But my first Smartphone was an LG, which was cheaper and more of a basic model. I recommend going to the phone store for your cellphone provider and telling them what you will use it for. They can match you with the right phone. One thing to consider is what kind of phone your friends and family have. You will have questions and iPhone users aren't as helpful for an Android user and vice versa.

Thanks for the advice.  It seems that almost everyone I know has an iPhone, so I am probably going to wind up with that.  I now have Verizon which I don't like.  I want to go with Consumer Cellular and they offer the Apple SE 3rd Gen which is what the fellow in Best Buy told me I should get.  The only reason I didn't get it in Best Buy is because Apple requires them to sell me a locked phone if I want Consumer Cellular.  I would have to buy an unlocked phone directly from an Apple store or buy it from Consumer Cellular.

You don't have to get a smartphone due to the end of 3g.  I have bought two 4g flip phones with high def voice (required), one GSM (ATT/TMobile) and one CDMA (Verizon network).  I am today transferring my service to my new Verizon phone simply because I have been on Verizon for a while and it makes it easier to port your number when you stick with the same carrier.  I am not a Verizon customer; I am a customer of a reseller and have a $14 plan for unlimited talk, text, and data which is slowed after 2g but I don't use any so I don't care about that.  Happy shopping.

Verizon has sent me two emails and one piece of mail telling me that they will no longer support my 10+ year old 3G flip phone.  Calls drop all the time and more often lately, it has to search for service, so I might as well bite the bullet and go 5G.

Congratulations on your new phone! There is so much you can do with it, but you don't have to learn everything at once. If you can use a computer,  using a smartphone should be easy for you.

Thought I would add that for security reasons I am keeping my old landline phone. If a thief breaks in I will smash them in the head with it until they hear bells. Cheers!

It's also good for calling your cellphone so you can find it under the sofa by following the ringing.

I will never lose my new phone. Right now I have it safe and sound inside a wool sock so it won't get scratched. The first time I turned it on I waited and waited for it turn on then I realised that I was looking at the back of the phone not at the screen. I am going to try calling it up tomorrow - I also want to get some cool ring tones. Cheers! This post was edited by Nanoose at August 25, 2022 8:33 PM MDT

I still refuse to buy one. I bought a 4G flip and it does exactly what I want it to do...talk, text, pics. I used it a few times to make sure I knew how and haven't had a call or text for three weeks.

Have you used it to contact people? Does anyone have your number? If they don't, that explains a lot. It's the easiest way to communicate. You should try it.

I have the same number, and all of my family knows it. They also know my phone is rarely on. The point is, since I get so few calls and texts, why pay so much for an expensive smart phone?

If you keep it on and use it, you'll appreciate it more and not need a landline. You can get rid of that and not have the bill. A smartphone is essentially a computer in your hand.

I just used my new phone to Google Luddite - glad I'm not that kind of person anymore. I refused to use a computer until 2001 and now I am thinking of asking Santa for a smart watch this Christmas. Cheers!

I love my smart watch. Samsung is releasing a new model this week and I really want it, although my current one is perfectly fine.
