Why would you throw it rather than drop it?

It's big and has a sliding door on the side but the hole is high so I always step back and throw it up there.  I had never used a dumpster-type contraption before I  moved here.  I actually like it but would not want it near my own house.  It's about a block away.

    Water.
During the day I salvage as much reusable water as I can.  Then I take it outside and use it to water the plants out front.  This morning I threw it on the spider plants (it was their turn).

A ball. Even though it's been quite a while since I played cricket, the umpire has to keep the ball during intervals, then I throw it to the bowler when play is about to resume.

I threw clothing at the laundry basket. I say at rather than in, because my aim isn't very good.
