It's been many decades since I've owned shoes that must be tied.

I have never been able to tie my shoes while standing up.  Sitting down to do it wasn't any easier (there are certain disadvantages to being tall).  that's why I invented a structure I named a "foot stool" (patent pending).  It allows me to comfortably reach my feet so I can spend 5 minutes tying the 50' laces on each shoe.  (long shoelaces and cats is a sure combination for a fall.)

Indeed. My cat likes to play with the 6 feet long lace when I put on my ankle brace.

I can lean over and put my palms flat on the floor with my feet together.  So yes, I can lean over and tie my shoes........but I only wear flip flops these days.

Nae bother; I even bend over in my kilt to tie my laces between dances if they have come undone.

I can also stand on one leg and put the other shoe on that knee to tie it.

My back won't allow me to bend double since the fusion. Usually I genuflect.

Oddly enough, my fusion still allows me to bend over, but not enough to tie my shoes.

I can bend, but not double. Going down on one knee still requires bending forward but not to the same degree. I can't bend backwards, at all - I used to be quite good at limbo, could even do it on ice skates. Not anymore.
