Would you allow your medical visit to filmed for a reality show? Can you think of a reason that anyone would?

This is a clip from a British reality show GP's Behind Closed Doors.

No, I would not consent to being filmed and, frankly, after the first two minutes of this, all I wonder was whether anyone has any interest in private things remaining private these days.

Some Europeans consider Americans to be quite prudish. I'm OK with that.

Honestly, if used exclusively for educational purposes or even if seeing a medical procedure performed successfully on me would help ease any tension or paranoia of someone who may need the exact procedure then, sure.

That's a good reason. Even though this a reality show, presumably for entertainment,  I expect that many viewers may get information about symptoms they are worried about.

    For bragging?

I want everybody to know my tonsils.

Or maybe just for sympathy and attention.

Just for general health things a big "no."  If i had something exotic and unusual that would help the general public to become aware of, I might agree, "if" I had some control of the information to be used for the story.

Nope to Question Number One, and yes to Question Number Two. Supposed fame and/or fortune, ego, naïvety, gullibility, misplaced assumptions of values, etc.

    Nope.

I do know a Mother and her daughter who agreed to have their heart surgery filmed  (not for TV but to be used for medical school training) They were the first people in the country to get this type of heart procedure done.  It also made their surgery and aftercare free.
They each have an implant that help regulate their heart. There is a small metal ball like a BB inside it that moves up and down with their blood. If it is quiet and you stand next to one of them you can hear it bouncing.  These ladies did it to help others and to keep medical bills down.

Some people will do anything to be on television. This post was edited by my2cents at January 28, 2023 4:34 PM MST

This is my own life and it is in no way an open book. So, my answer would be no. People who would do such a thing are different apparently.

No and no. The situation described by my2cents was not for a reality show. If I found myself in such a situation as she described, my answer may be different.
