You mean he followed science when he was alive. A biological boy will grow to be a biological man and a biological girl will grow to be a biological woman. That does not change.

The series Misterogers debuted in Canada on October 15, 1962 and on CBC Television in 1966. The US national debut of Misteroger's Neighborhood occurred on February 19, 1968.
At that time, the majority of the population was homophobic. I know, I was there. In many places, homosexuality was against the law. Transgender was barely known by the public and the term "gay" was not in common use to refer to homosexual or lesbian folk.
With a little research, you could likely find any number of well known people of the sixties, seventies, and even eighties that fed into that phobia.
