No, I do not wonder because I say it most winter days. Driving back home just now, I was thinking about all the dreary days I have wasted in this awful state.
What is meant is seasonal affliction, no affection in it at all. This state is the most boring, dreary, lack luster place I've ever lived in. The winters are awful, the dreary days are too numerous to really enjoy life. In California there is never ending wonderful, fun places to go and good weather to enjoy every minute, lots of sun, ocean, sand, mountains, desert, interesting beautiful places to visit. Miss California more than I can say.
And your reply here demonstrates what I've lived with my entire life since a young boy when my memories started - - I've always loved beautiful, gray cloudy skies and have found contant sun annoying and overbearing. And I've always noted how the rest of the world found my weather preferences blatantly wrong - - never, never do I hear cloudy, gray skies described as "good" weather and "wonderful". But overcast days are "dreary."
I'm okay with it all -- I've long ago accepted my weather preferences as beautiful. :) California weather, from what I've heard, would not be my preference. :)

And I hope I didn't come across in a negative way. I understand from where you come, too .We all have preferences. As far a weather, though, my whole life I see the majority of people disagreeing with my tastes. And it's okay. :)
And I realize the Vitamin D that the sun provides can help one's emotional state. I've experienced it. But I do know that if there are three days in a row of sunny, sun-up-to-sun-down days, I can get emotionally down. But I feel fine with three days in a row of gray overcast skies from morning til night. :)
