She lives in Texas, so far away.  The one thing she has requested is a trip to California to have some fun.  I hope she is able to travel there soon with her children, her sons wife and caregiver.

Something that comes to mind is: "I'll be sad later. For now, let's see what we can do to make this the most amazing time possible."

It's too soon for me to remember what I said to him.
I've been in the situation recently. I'm still mourning his passing. It's too soon for me to be helpful for you. I'm sorry.

Welby, I'm so sorry.  I sounds like you loss someone important to you.  Those are the ones we can be thankful for having in our lives.  The sorrow will go when it goes.  There are no steps to take.  God bless you.

My mother in law had glioblastoma brain tumor.  I don't remember how long they said she had but we spent as much time as we could with her.  What to say never felt hard.  My kids asked her some hard questions but she truthfully answered them all.  She died very soon after finding out but her death was from a blood clot in her lung.  That was so many years ago, and she was younger than I am now.  She came into this world on a January 1 and left this world on a January 1.  I will always miss her.
