Not only rusty, but the equipment was invariably embedded in concrete or asphalt. When we fell off, our parents didn't sue - they kissed it better, patched us up with band-aids and mercurochrome (remember that fire in a bottle?) and we went straight back to the playground.
This made me think about how they used Paregoric on us for all kinds of things. God only knows what would happen to a mom today who would dare rub a little on a baby's throbbing gum.
