Would have to amend the Constitution to add requirements to POTUS. And if we add those to POTUS then it should also apply to other elected offices.
It would stop any politicians who have dual citizenship from getting a clearance as well.
But no, the PEOPLE should get to elect who they want even if the establishment does not want them and this would give them the power to veto a candidate the people choose.
Good points. Any process would have to be objective and transparent to ensure that acceptance or denial was not politically motivated. Not sure if that is possible.
The fact that Congress does not need security clearances is concerning, since members may get access to classified intelligence. There are a few members that I really wouldn't trust. We have to count on leadership ot assigning them to committees where they are likely to be allowed to see sensitive information.
Dual citizenship is not a barrier to a security clearance, as long as loyalty to the US is confirmed.
Yes. Up until Trump's election, there was likely no need for this, but after Trump, it has become obvious that any disreputable piece of garbage can run for the office and win.
Even scarier, the president can give a security clearance to literally anyone in the world. Only one president has ever done this. Can you imagine if all the Cabinet members were just handed a clearance?
I have absolutely no doubt that Trump is far from a patriot. He will do or say anything that will further his power grab and his intent to install himself as permanent Fuhrer.
