Please.  If you do your research, you'll find that this country and its people do better under Democrat administrations than Republican.  Of course, you don't really want to look that up because it doesn't fit your view.

Yes, there are specific business that have done better, but I'm not talking about one individual - I'm talking about the economy in general.  There used to be a middle class - but that's slowly shrinking and if it keeps up, there will be the very wealthy and the very poor.

True and if they do not seal the border and return these illegals and get the gas prices back down,  there will not be any middle class at all.

People see things through the lens of their own experience and are affected by their age, their biases and other influences. A person who was a casualty of union-busting will have a different view than someone who benefits from the stock market. My perspective comes from starting my career with a 100-year-old company that was known for retaining its employees. It is a huge company and at that time it was common for multiple members of the same family to work there. Then came the era of corporate raiders and a focus on shareholders over employees. The first wave of layoffs came as a shock. The two-way loyalty that previously existed began to erode. Employees became an expense rather than an asset. Layoffs, moving jobs to lower cost countries and outsourcing became the norm. I believe we need to focus on rebuilding the middle class and the Biden-Harris focus on unions and anti-trust actions resonates much more with me than lowering corporate taxes and keeping immigrants out to supposedly save low-paying jobs. I managed to survive in my company for 37 years, which made me a dinosaur and I am benefitting from the stock market. But, I am still able to look at the country as a whole instead of judging the economy on how well I did personally.

I understand that we all see things from the lens of our experiences.  Before I retired last year, I had worked for the same attorney in our original offices and when we incorporated into another firm, we had worked together for 32 years in total.  During that time, the firm was run by the same managing attorneys and their goal was to treat employees fairly and with respect.  It was a great culture.  After I left, management changed hands and I have kept in touch with one of the secretaries who is still there and she has told me some really horrid stories of how the firm has changes.  Many of the more experienced secretaries are gone as are several of the senior partners.  I know that my partner decided to retire when he knew the new management would be coming in.  It's sad that things have come to this but I'm not sure at this point how it can be turned around.  I guess we have been te fortunate ones.

I say the first step is to stop allowing corporations such a big influence in how our country is run. Both parties need to work on this, but I know which party is most likely to stand up to big business.

No establishment politician of any party will stand up to big business.

Guess you don't know Bidens record. Or are you saying he's not establishment?  And we know which party is removing regulations to cater to their corporate donors.

I think the lobbyist have had far too much of an influence on government policy.  People who were in elected offices should not be able to lobby Congress.  It's tantamount to insider trading. This post was edited by Spunky at August 2, 2024 5:53 AM MDT

The Republicans might nominate someone who is actually sane in 2028, so don't count your chickens.
