Should Americans be required to have a REAL ID or passport to fly domestically?

Law scheduled to go into effect in spring 2025.

    Considering how much information you have to provide to prove who you are, it's not a bad idea.  I applied for mine when I moved to PA and had to apply for a PA driver's license.  No point in putting it off ay longer than necessary.

    I got mine 6 years ago (a year before the first "deadline").  I practically needed a briefcase just to hold all the info they required. 
    This state's DMV was not ready for Real ID certification (short staffed, computer crashes, 8+ hours waiting in line), so they had to completely overhaul the entire DMV system.

    I didn't get one when I lived in NY because I had just renewed my driver's license and that was expensive enough.  I knew I had a valid passport if I needed to travel.  of course, when I moved to PA, the smart thing to do was get a Real ID.

    I just saw illegals can show their border crossing paperwork.  
    I do not think the gov should prevent citizens from travel unless they have a real reason, that is a threat of some kind.  We have that already, it is called the no-fly list. And the list should be required to justify a American citizen being on it.
    This is another way to control the American citizen.

    I mainly got a Real ID so I could get onto a military base if needed.  Otherwise, since I can't fly and don't travel, it's useless to me.

    This is California; illegals can already get/do anything here - free medical, free food stamps, cash, work, place to live - so why not be able to fly too?

    Sure, why not? Flying seems to require a lot of hurdles and indignities and sometimes it feels like they want to see how far they can push it for very little reason. No matter what, there will still be incidents on planes. And if a terrorist wants to take a commercial plane on a kamikaze mission, this won't stop it. I have a real ID, but have no intention of flying in the foreseeable future.

    I doubt the law is being applied to noncitizens...do you think ID should be required for noncitizens  to fly in the USA? 
    If they don't, it will not even apply to the terrorists.

    Why would you think that the rules will only be enforced against US citizens and not everyone else?  Another conspiracy theory?

    Non-citizens can fly in the USA if they have the following identification:

    I see they have carved out something for the illegals. 


    Why should they get a paper but citizens need to go through this BS? 

    The gov does not need to know where a law abiding citizen travel.

    No ID to vote but a Real ID to fly.  Gov overreach.  It is about control.  If no experimental shot, no flying. Owe taxes, no flying. Protest the gov, no flying. Etc. 

    I don't fly. I am simply calling out the gov overreach.

    A border crossing card has nothing to do with 'illegals' any more than a US passport card makes me 'illegal' if I use it to go to Canada or Mexico.

    You clearly did not do much research on this or you would understand what a crossing card is.  So, let me help you to try and understand so you don't have a stroke thinking about all these illegal aliens crossing the border:

    For Citizens of Mexico

    Overview

    A Form DSP-150 is both a Border Crossing Card and a B1/B2 visitor visa, but a DSP-150 is generally called a Border Crossing Card ("BCC"). ... It is valid for travel until the expiration date on the front of the card, usually ten years after issuance.

    Border Crossing Card Validity

    • The BCC is generally valid for ten years after issuance, except in the cases of some children (see Border Crossing Card Fees).

    Qualifying for a Border Crossing Card

    • BCCs are only issued to applicants who are citizens of and resident in Mexico.
    • Applicants must meet the eligibility standards for B1 and/or B2 visas and plan to stay in the U.S. no more than six months.
    • They must demonstrate that they have ties to Mexico that would compel them to return after a temporary stay in the United States.

    Why would it be applied to non-citizens? They aren't able to get one. They would have to use a passport or other form of acceptable ID as they currently do. You can check the TSA website for what's acceptable. If you're making some point about undocumented immigrants, I expect that being undocumented means they will have to travel by Greyhound.

    Why allow illegals to simply have a border crossing paper? But require citizens to go through extra BS? 
    We have a no fly list. 
    This another avenue for government control
     To force citizens into following their commands.

    I don't think you fully understand what a border crossing card is. And, if you didn't notice, I more or less agree with Real ID being unnecessary and as I pointed out elsewhere, my state and many other states agree. That is why this law has taken 10 years to go into effect and won't even be fully enforced until 2027. Who knows? It could even get struck down at some point.
