Toys and food aren't the only things a pet needs. They need their "people" as well (companionship). While a dog will "survive" being alone for long periods of time, it will be lonely. This may make it bark, howel, or even chew up things (and not necessarily its toys).
That's good and seeing out of it because the only thing I'd want in here is a basenji but and a cat isn't even alive as compared to a dog only minimal brain function

Actually, cats are very intelligent. Sadly, they get a bad rap by people who don't understand their mannerisms. I've had cats that were much smarter than my dogs. I've had a dog that controlled my cat (took no guff from it), and I've had a cat that controlled my dog (taught it to act like a cat).
Cats are cunning, conniving, evil bastards. A dog loves you unconditionally. A cat pretends to love you only as far as it suits the cat - if you died, it would eat you without the slightest compunction. In fact, your cat is probably plotting to kill and eat you now.
- When I was sick, my cats were right there nursing me back to health (as only I could operate the can opener).
- Had I died, my big cat would have opened the back door (which he learned to do as a kitten... had a bit of trouble with the lock, though) and gone over to mooch food from the neighbors.
- My cat would never have eaten me as he'd bitten me enough times to know that I didn't taste like fish (and anything that didn't taste like fish wasn't worth his time).
