Is this one of the most important things Trump was elected to do?

"President Trump said Friday he plans to sign an executive order promoting plastic straws after his predecessor sought to phase out single-use plastics from government operations.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I will be signing an Executive Order next week ending the ridiculous Biden push for Paper Straws, which don’t work. BACK TO PLASTIC!”

What a petty and revengeful man he is.
He probably has no plan on how to bring down food prices – but he will make America great again one straw at a time. Cheers and happy weekend!

His concern for birds and marine life affected by wind turbines doesn't seem to carry over into concern about the harm to birds and marine life caused by straws. But, do you know what kills more birds than wind turbines? Skyscrapers and you don't hear much talk against building them. Actually, what kills the most birds are cats which makes me wonder why he would care about them being eaten.

He's slowly dragging the US back in time, decade by decade.

Maybe he can drag us back to before straws were invented and then he can focus on the really important stuff.

He'll stop regression around 1860. That'll be the ideal decade for the majority of xenophobic, god & gun botherers amongst his flock. Yee-haw!

I think Trump and the people who control him (Big Tech oligarchs) are bombarding us with all kinds of distractions to keep us from seeing what's actually going on.

I agree.  However, those of us who aren't looking at him through rose-colored glasses seem to see what's happening and it bothers me more that so few on Congress seem to be doing anything to stop it. This post was edited by Spunky at February 8, 2025 9:08 AM MST

It doesn't matter to me.   I have never used a paper straw. But would be very aggravated if they were required where I live. So good for the people who were being subject to that.

Single use plastic straws have already been phased out in Australia. My better half carries reusable metal ones when we go out - paper straws are frequently glued with a wheat product, and she's gluten intolerant. Hashimoto's.

Interesting.  I don't drink anything with a straw, so I have no idea what we have here in PA.

She enjoys cocktails. Those usually come with a straw.

I don't need a straw for a glass of wine or a gin & tonic.  Besides, drinking through a straw gives you wrinkles around your top lip.

This post reminded me of one of the senseless things Trump did during his first term.

He made it so water in disposable plastic containers could be sold in National Parks. All that accomplished was a drastic increase in litter – and maybe a few bucks for Trump because he was in the bottle water biz at the time. So I bet Trump is going to start pushing plastic straws on Truth Social.

    Cheers and happy weekend!

He also made asbestos legal again. Mesothelioma may in future be renamed "Trump's disease". Make America Gasp Again.

Russia is the world’s largest producer of asbestos so I’m wondering if that has anything to do with Trump bringing it back. Also it was Biden that banned asbestos so it is probably just another one of Trump’s sour grapes move. Cheers!

It was GWH Bush that banned asbestos, with the ABPO in 1989. But the ban was only finalised in 2024.

People who eat in restaurants, particularly fast-food ones, seem to feel strongly about straws.  I don't eat out very often at all and I don't drink anything other than water and coffee so straws are not at all important to me.  I do keep some straws at home for the infrequent time one says, "I need a straw."  The best thing I've found for using them is sucking the air out of sandwich bags as I zip them.  The package I have is paper straws and they've been in my kitchen for at least 20 years.  There are still about 20 left.  I think they will get me over the finish line.
