Is the fertilization president at it again?

The White House has been fielding proposals aimed at persuading people to marry and have children.

One such proposal that has been pitched to White House advisers is a $5,000 "baby bonus" to every American mother after she gives birth.

$5,000 is not going to last long for family that has no more job or health care or social security - ect ect ect. Cheers!

Social security is not going anywhere nor are the other programs.

A woman on social security is not young enough to have children.

At 50, I personally don't think the $5000 is enough to make me think about having a baby now.
But if I were younger, it would have made me think about another, shoot, I thought about it then.  This post was edited by my2cents at April 23, 2025 7:14 PM MDT

I would be suspicious of a parent who reproduced only for some extra pocket money. If people are not having kids because of financial constraints,  $5000 is a drop in the bucket. They should be working on affordable child care, parental leave, lower cost housing, a higher minimum wage, better health care, and state laws that don't cause a woman to choose between criminal charges or death if she miscarries or has a non-viable pregnancy. It's natural to want kids (or so they tell me), so they should be looking at the causes of the dwindling birth rate, to see why people are choosing not to have them.

I never thought about parents having children just for the money. A drug addict could pump out kids and be high for years. I think this is just a blowhard stunt by Trump to make it seem like he is concerned about American families. Cheers!

He is concerned about having more white babies and keeping black and brown skinned immigrants from becoming the majority. It's called the replacement theory and it's been around for years. Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Blacks among others have been accused of wanting to replace the white Protestant population. Now the immigrants are the big 'threat '. Democrats are accused of wanting more immigrants to get more Democrat  voters. It was also the impetus  for the anti abortion movement because affluent white women were terminating pregnancies and not producing enough babies to keep the white, non -immigrant population levels up. We need to increase the population and the usual way countries do that is with immigration. But immigrants have been portrayed as a problem, not a solution. There is some evidence that Trump is realizing his stance on immigration needs to be re-worked.

I guess the farmers have explained to him that there won't be enough food to feed Americans if he gets rid of all the farm workers who pick the fruits and vegetables.  Trump wouldn't know a hard day's work if it bit him in the face.

He's also worried about hotel maids and other staff. I wonder why?

I would have to assume it's because we used to derive a great deal of income from tourism.  Now, no one wants to come here because they're afraid they won't ever be able to get back home. This post was edited by Spunky at April 25, 2025 6:37 AM MDT

Or because as a hotel owner, he won't have enough workers.

And we all know that Trump has been known to hire undocumented workers. This post was edited by Spunky at April 25, 2025 6:20 AM MDT

That is a crap plan.  If a company wants H1B visa workers they should have to pay $20,000 per visa worker. Or they can hire Americans and yes that means they have to pay a real wage.

I should have used the term non- immigrant rather than white, but it's a slight difference Throughout our history, immigrants who are not from a few preferred countries were referred to as black and discriminated against. This included Italians and Irish and my Slovenian great grandparents. I wonder what they would think of us having a Slovenian First Lady?

It also might help a young Mother choose life over having an abortion as well.
Good for Trump for encouraging Motherhood.

The payment is not limited to white mothers so not sure how people are implying it is racial. It.would apply to ALL American women who give birth.

I'm wondering where the money for this is going to come from.  The only answer is taxpayers.  I thought the president was getting rid of waste when he "thinned out" the government.
Rewarding people with $5k for having children is not a viable way to increase the population, as it will inevitably increase government spending. There's more to "having" children then simply bearing them.  They must be reared, cared for (fed, clothed), educated, etc.  This means that having children requires taking on responsibility.  Some people either don't want or can't handle that responsibility, and thus they don't have children.  Some people have children but shirk their responsibility for them.  Some people can't afford to have children (the cost to bear and raise a child to age 18 is staggering - not even including prenatal care or child care).  When people can't afford children - regardless of whether those parents are poor or are shirking their responsibility - the government ends up stepping in to provide (i.e. welfare).  Yet some people see welfare as government waste.  I have heard people say, "if people have kids they should be the ones to provide for them, else they shouldn't breed.".
Dare I mention the people who will "have" a child just for the money... and then abandon it (not their problem.  Either let it die or let the government care for it).  It may sound harsh, but it's a reality.

Did it ever occur to anyone to find out why birth rates are declining?  Are wages too low (not everyone can have a high paying job)?  Are "necessities" (things like food, water, clothing, housing, healthcare) too expensive?  Does childcare cost more than most families earn?

The GOP is only concerned with the welfare of children while they're in the womb.  Once out, they're on their own. This post was edited by Spunky at April 25, 2025 6:39 AM MDT

Birth rates are lower because for 30-40 yrs, the schools and media have brainwashed children into believing having kids is bad for the earth. And that the earth and USA is overpopulated.  And that people should not have kids in this day and age...it is selfish etc.
I remember this stuff being taught when I was in school. And know my kids got an earful of it from their schools.
Then we have all the crap they put in our food that effects fertility of both biological sexes.  It has been studied and the average older man has more testosterone than some 20s men.  That is a problem and it is from the foods we eat.

Now that they (media, elected officials, big processed food co, etc) have driven birth rates down,  they now claim immigration is the answer to the birth rates.
