Is Trump turning into Governor William J. Le Petomane from Blazing Saddles?

To be honest, I didn't know that English was the national language in Liberia. However, complimenting a Black man on his ability to speak it well is rude at best and racist at worst.  This president is beyond an embarassment.

I didn't know that English was the national language in Liberia either.

But I would if I was going to represent my country in an important meeting. I would do a bit of homework so that I would know a bit about the people I’m sitting down with and a bit about the country they represent. I think Trump showed the Liberia president that he does speak English well. Trump used the word “good” a few times instead of the word “well”.

I think it was a rude comment with a racist core.

    Cheers!

Yep! Every time he opens his mouth, I can't help but be amazed by the near 215 million votes over 3 elections. Is the xenophobic pull really that blind to the dumbness?

Those people vote for him because they are just like him and having him in office gives them permission to say the quiet part out loud.

Biden:  "I mean, you got the first sort of mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. That is a storybook, man."

If I recall my history and geography correctly, Liberia was founded as an American colony for freed slaves and later declared its Independence from the US. I wouldn't expect Trump to know that, but with all the world leaders he deals with in English, many of whom do not have English as a first language, he only found it remarkable that this Black leader was fluent in English.

Didn't know that, at all. Probably explains the Liberian flag.

No, because that was funny. This is somewhere between tragic and embarrassing.

It is like watching a Ricky Gervais sitcom character, constantly making me squirm and thinking, 'should I really be laughing at this'.  Car crash politics!
