Should someone who lies on a public station, be fired?

Not cable. (That is not a public owned station)
This would apply to ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and NPR)

They do it on FOX news all the time - without consequences. This post was edited by Shuhak at September 18, 2025 3:27 PM MDT

Not if a President of the United States gets to lie/say whatever they want without being fired.

The politicians made their lying legal along time ago.

I thought the same thing after I posted.

And once I think about it even more, everyone has probably lied at some point in a job of any kind in the history of jobs. :)

True. And some have lost their job because of it.  If you do not keep the boss happy, you get fired.
    In this case,
Kimmel lied, refused to correct the lie.
    Advertisers complained
Owners of several local ABC stations were going to stop airing Kimmel.
Disney/ABC fired him.  (His ratings were bad as well...)

Why did you leave out FOX?

Fox does not use US public broadcasting airwaves.    I also left out CNN, MSNOW (MSNBC), etc for the same reason.

And who will be the one that determines if it is a lie?

The Trump regime is gutting the Corporations for Public Broadcasting. And is now replacing it with right wing propaganda media.

Free speech is the counterweight - it is the check on government control.
That is why censorship is the authoritarian's dream. Cheers!

True.  I actually agree with this. (Who decides if it is a lie...not the rest of your answer)

I am talking about a blatant lie. Not an out of context thing  or just a difference of opinion.

And gov is not who fired Kimmel.  This post was edited by my2cents at September 19, 2025 9:07 AM MDT
