Running on just this one issue, would you consider voting for me as President of the United States of America?

"If elected, I will outlaw ALL of the endless prescription medication commercials on TV/radio/internet/online commercials. No more five-and-a-half minutes of ' Do not take if you're allergic . . .  may cause endless potential side effects etc. "

But, please do not vote for me if you're allergic to me. Talk it all over with your doctor/neighbors/your pets/your favorite pizza parlor owner before voting. And do know that if you vote for me, I will not cause death.

" Be Well, All ."

If only that were possible.  How much money does big pharma dish out to make commercials for products that the average person does not need or cannot take (without a prescription).  So, if you get down to the meat of it, they are either advertising to pill pushing doctors, or they're trying convince people they have an "issue" that they probably don't have - just so they will try to "force" their doctor into giving it to them.  Either way they make a ton of money (high markup on pills)  Since we live in a "pill society" (have an issue?  Just pop a pill), we'll have to put up with those bad commercials.

Since Big Pharma funnels a ton of money into politics, NO politician would dare touch their advertising (lest they lose a lot of kickback).

I love your disclaimer.  I agree that there should be no ads for prescription medications.  It should be up to your doctor to prescribe what he thinks you need, not what is pushed to you in the media. If you listen closely to the disclaimers, sometimes the side effects are worse than the illness.

I would consider voting for you because of that issue. And I will throw in a snappy campaign slogan if you consider getting rid of those ICE recruiting commercials. They are sickening - and if you take away prescription medication commercials I won’t know what I need to take to make myself better.

On the Big Bang Theory there is a gall that works for a large medication company. She was talking about a new product they were working on that was supposed to control blood pressure. But tests showed it didn’t control blood pressure but it did have weight loss side effects – so they marketed it as weight lose medication. Cheers!

Not likely. I have never been a one-issue voter and I don't watch regular television, so I don't ever see those commercials.

But, I would like to know who are those patients who go to their doctors and ask for the medications. The ads must work or they wouldn't be so ubiquitous.

I'd certainly vote for you on any policy, particularly if you were running against the candidate from the incumbent NPA (Nazi Party of America).

That would be a check in your favor but other issues would matter more.

Yes.  A friend of mine is a neurologist and I quote him; Allowing television advertising of prescription medications is the least responsible act ever by regulators.  I agree and have since day 1.  Doctors have to spend time, a lot of time on discussions about advertised drugs.   It seems to me that reading side effects would keep people from being willing to take the drugs.  Alas, it doesn't seem to be true.

Didn't Trump complain about this at some point?

Anyway, yes, this issue gets a yes vote.
