It's a simple question. How will a wall hurt us?

  • Which wall and for what purpose?
We hurt ourselves by creating isolation if we build unnecessary walls.
Some people feel they need the walls for a sense of security and safety. But the problem can usually be better solved by learning how to choose, create and maintain good relationships.

How was illegal immigration solved other than no longer calling it illegal? Your words are nice and meant not offend people against security and safety. Why must it be necessary to maintain good relations with those who wish us harm? Always prepare for the worse while hoping for the best. Newcomers should be at the mercy of the host NOT the host at the mercy of newcomers.

  • Huh? What evidence is there of newcomers wishing harm?

Most come due to desperate circumstances in their country of origin. They hope for work, a better lifestyle than the one they left, and freedom from religious, racial or political persecution.
Very few people ever want to leave the familiarity of their way of life unless forced.

What proportion of newcomers cause offense or harm (and what kind?) as compared to the proportion of American-born citizens committing murders somewhere in the States every day?
The USA has the highest rate of home-grown violence in the Western world. It is one reason why I have never visited - the place scares me.

Here, I can leave my home and car unlocked and walk around my region in complete safety. Here, no one needs a gun for "self-defense." This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at November 13, 2016 8:07 PM MST

You build a wall for security. Without a wall, good border security, what do you have?. That good relationship goes both ways. Around 40 percent of illegals came legally with a work permit. Do they self deport when their time is up? 40 percent don't.

  • Sounds as though the authorities don't have a system for keeping an eye on people with work visas.
Surely it would be cheaper to watch them than to build a wall which can't succeed in keeping people out anyway.

Counterintuitive is one word, not two.

Thanks for keeping sharp, nerd, but I like it the way I wrote it so I take my thanks back. This post was edited by O-uknow at November 13, 2016 2:50 PM MST

Name-calling in lieu of the maturity of merely admitting that you wrote it incorrectly. That's good.

  • The thing about this wall thingy is... that it's totally unrealistic!  It will cost you guys zillions.. pay that if you want in your taxes cos the Mexicans sure ain't gonna pay it - and why should they? It will hurt you by making you look bad around the world.. you will look isolationist, erm kinda bonkers too.  It's a loony idea.. something someone with no idea how it all works would come up with..

By all means build it tho.. it will create several scores of jobs..that has to be a good thing right?

It will be *interesting* to watch this one that's for sure.. how many of his promises will Trump actually keep.. how many CAN he keep and how many were unrealistic loopy ideas plucked out of the air and ranted about by a man with  delusions of grandeur :P

I think it is more table intuitive.   Counters are too uncomfortable for me.  At least booth intuitive.
