Did you hear the news about Trump stating that he is only going to charge a $1 a year for being President?

I heard that on the radio this morning. Cheers!

@E99 -- Upon further review, I think I'm off by an order of magnitude.

    My numbers: Presidential salary  = $400,000 year = 4.0 x 10^5

    US federal budget = abour $4 trillion/year  = 4.0 x 10^12

By forgoing his Presidential salary, Trump is saving the taxpayers 4.0x10^5/4.0x10^12 of the federal budget = 1.0 x 10^-7 = one TEN MILLIONTH of the budget.

My sentiments, exactly! I told one of my friends, this morning, that the working class sold their souls to the devil, like Faust. My name comes from this opera. This is why I chose it. Not because I sold my soul to the devil, but because it is musical. I love the music.

@S, it was so obvious to me. Thanks for the song! One of my favorites! I also like the one about the devil in blue jeans called "Somebody's Knockin'.

It's not a big deal and not all that newsworthy. Michael Bloomberg did the same thing when he became mayor of NYC.

  • He won't have to. He avoids taxes yet again! In fact, he'll qualify for welfare!!!!

When he can talk every member of congress into doing the same thing, he will have my utmost respect.

And what, PRECISELY, would that accomplish?

Assuming all 535 members of Congress forwent their $174,000 salaries, the total would be $93 million dollars.  That would be a whopping 2 TEN-THOUSANDTHS of the federal budget. That would pay for ONE F-35 fighter jet.

In the immortal words of 1970s Americans, "BFD!"
