Just saying Castro by far. Seriously, the U.S. is accused of torturing captured combatants not citizens of theirs or our own.

Bush... and most of the rest of the world thinks that too.. when i first tried to look up about Cuba I found many references to how they had endured *despite* the very real hardships imposed by Bush.. As someone here said about something else, it's always the little people who get hurt by embargos and sanctions.
As far as I know, Castro never invaded a sovereign country on totally (and knowingly) false pretenses thereby causing over one million casualties, including over 35,000 Americans killed and wounded. Does that count?
Castro invaded Cuba (he wasn't elected President).....over 1.6 million deaths are attributed to Castro.

Don't be ridiculous. By that reasoning George Washington was an invader. No rational organization attributes 1.6 million deaths to Castro. Amnesty International pegs the figure at about 235 political executions for various "crimes". Others put the figure in the thousands - however, NONE say 1.6 million. Get a grip.
And what about the US backed coups and dictatorships in Central and South America, sanctioned by the CIA. What are the estimates of those killed vicariously, shall we say. 20,000 Cubans where killed by Batista who was supported by the US

While I understand the thrust of your argument, I don't think a numerical comparison is the most appropriate measure.
The reason the United States SHOULD NOT torture is:
--It's ineffective (the tortured tell you what they think you want to hear) --It's illegal (and NO EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER makes it legal) --It creates more resentment (and retributive violence) than it prevents
..and, pertinent to your question
--It takes away having the moral high ground (We DO NOT torture, our enemies do. That's what makes us The Good Guys)
There is no moral construct where claiming, "Hey, we commited X FEWER atrocities than you. We win!" is reasonable.
Late Edit: @excon...upon reading some of your counter-replies to others, it appears you both understand and agree with my argument above. But I hope laying it out more explicitly serves a useful function.
