It is rubbish to say the European Union was not democratically accountable. We elected MEPs. It is only the European Commission that is not elected; that body is appointed by the elected MEPs, and is only a steering group with little power, anyway. It is interesting that the people who supported Brexit complain about the EU not being democratic, but say nothing about the House of Lords, which has no democracy to it whatsoever. See my own recent question about this.
I spotted a comment from Salty back there accusing me of only caring about rights when they apply to me, and not caring about the decision of my fellow subjects. Point one, Salty. We are not subjects. We are citizens. This ain't historic times.
Point two. I just said I disagreed with the decision. I didn't say that I don't respect it. Though given that many of them voted on an anti-immigrant basis, which was the main argument of the Brexit campaign, I can't respect that. I was going into town on Friday evening, and I saw lying in the street a little sign saying "Leave the EU. No more Polish vermin." I think that illustrates what I mean.
Point three. I know perfectly well that the only "right" you care about, Salty, is the "right" to own your little pop-guns, which is not a real right at all. So fornicate elsewhere!
