Have you ever wanted to try a different religion to see what it is like?

I like studying about World Religions. I would like to try Judaism and Hinduism, to start with. I saw a huge church riding on the highway yesterday. It was called "The Light of the World". (It was in Spanish.)I had never heard of it before so I looked it up. It was different from any church I had ever heard of. Churches are full of interesting architecture, traditions, and ideologies.

  • I did.  I searched for faith for a very long time and studied many faiths.   The more I learned, the more I saw it was BS.

I agree though churches are amazing from an aesthetic and architectural perspective.

Nah, I don't believe in any God(s) no matter the religion. Some religions are awesome though reading about.

  • I love reading about other religions, but I don't really have a desire to join them. But doesn't mean I can't learn from the religion's teachings.

TBH, religions (including atheism) should be a matter of belief. Unless you've had a proper conversion, you can't simply try another religion with any sincerity.

That's not to say you can't have constructive or ecumenical discussion with other religionists. Comparative religion is often of value in broadening one's outlook.

  • How do you properly convert to atheism?

It happens to some people; there are even Anglican bishops who are closet atheists.

I find elements of Buddhism fascinating and attractive. Seems pretty complex, though. I don't think any other man-made architecture that can compare with the beauty of churches, temples, cathedrals, etc.

I'd say you have an unsatisfactory concept of religion. It doesn't satisfy you for starters.

I'm happy for you. That's great.

The right religion would totally synergize your current experience.

Yes.  I got hooked on studying them after a friend of mine majored in Religion at Berkley in California.   I thought that was so odd of him that I was intrigued.    So, I just began my own study as a hobby.

    It's not there, Didge.

I'd tell you where it is, but I'm sworn to secrecy.

Years ago I became a member of the Baha'i Faith  and stayed for about 3 1/2 years. A good religion I think but I left after I began developing uncurable atheism.

...it should be to open a door
to a direct experience of God.

Is that the fault of the door, or are you having a problem opening it?

Is it even possible to "believe something different" as a matter of choice ?

For Philosophical coherence I would go for the Bahai faith. They think every religion show facets of "The Truth".
