I think you may be right, Thriftymaid! Sadly, I didn't realize how much I liked Prince and his music until he died. And I equate "Nothing Compares 2 U" so much with O'Connor, I think, because I heard her cover first and really liked it. I need to get ready to go to work now but I need to look up Prince's own rendition. Shame on me -- I don't recall ever hearing it.
I love how you worded your comment - - "I have to say I would choose Prince every single time :) " That's excellent! :)
Thanks for posting this, SapphicHeart ~ I had to go to work before being able to look this song up and I was exhausted after work, so I will listen to the song - -- AFTER I get back from work yet again! Ha! I have to get going to work again! :)
Welby, I just watched a Prince live video of just he and his acoustic guitar on stage. That's always so good....no band and lights sand smoke and and and and. It brought back memories. He stated that he wrote Nothing Compares 2 U for Sinead OConnor. So, I'm not sure who covered whom. ;)

Another "fun-ly" worded expression, Thriftymaid -- "and and and and. " :) Yes, sometimes it's best to just hear a voice and instrument!
I'm quite a Howard Jones fan, too, and I saw him in a great concert -- just Howard and a piano. He captivated me the entire concert! Great stuff! And an acoustic Prince would be great, too! I never knew that Prince wrote that song for O'Connor -- those two together surely make the song memorable. I plan on listening to Prince's version later -- I have to go to work again, ha! :)
Welby, I saw Billy Joel on stage once with nothing but his piano. That is a great performance memory.

"Manic Monday" was written under the pseudonym "Christopher". I bought the single by the Bangles when it was a hit in 1986, and it was my sister who first told me it was written by Prince. I confirmed that a few weeks later in NME or some other music paper. I don't know how to upload images on this site any more otherwise I'd have posted a pic of the label. You can find all the details here:
