Discussion»Questions»Politics» If the world is ending according to some on the left. Don't they owe an apology to doomsday preppers for calling then paranoid nutjobs?
I think the two groups meant "the world is ending" in very different senses.
Those who consider the Trump election a disaster believe he will do damage to the United States economy, its standing in the world, and our constitutional system which will be difficult to repair.
The doomsday preppers believe that doomsday will bring about the literal end of society above the family/tribal level of organization.
The first group thinks voting, organizing protests, and sending money to the right political causes/candidates is the proper response.
The second group is stocking up on canned beans and shotgun shells.
The idea of 'the world ending' is often brought up, like some rancid bit of meat.
The world as we know it might be ending, but all I can see so far that has stopped is the traditional understanding that senior politicians will want their pronouncements to make some sort of sense.
Trump may try to do all sorts of nasty things over the next few months and years. He may even succeed, though I consider it unlikely he would be allowed to do too much damage.
If the "world ended" I would not survive. Even if I "prepped", I wouldn't last long.
I don't understand what they're prepping for. Is it to have enough until society is rebuilt? Are they going to help do that? Do they have enough to live a long time? Are they going breed more people to live in a living nightmare? Will those people rebuild society? Into what kind of society?
A better prep kit would be a bunch of pills.
IF I did happen to survive I think I would want to join the "crazies trying to get in". You know the insane people always doing the raiding. It might be best just to give into the insanity because it won't last long anyway.
A small few seem to. Most have been into secret cabals and muahahaha kinda stuff from what I've seen

Ah. Anyway, what does it matter if the world is going down there isn't much we can do about it. The US have elected what they believe being their best choice, not that I agree. Looks like other countries need to step up. Unfortunately I'm not really having high hopes for that to happen either.
There are idiots and there are people who can think. Calling them left or right is inspid. Calling them Trump voters is closer to the mark. I don't think they know what direction they think.
I'm the only one on the left who's suggested the end of the world is near, so I guess you're talking about me...
I didn't prepare because I thought we'd elect a nut who'd BLOW up the world. But it didn't matter.. Preparation IS preparation regardless of the reason, and I've been a prepper for a long time.. Yes, I'm a goldbug, and I own a yurt.
If things work out, I'll EAT the food I've got stored away, and vacation with my yurt. In the final analysis, it matters not, HOW the world ends. That it ENDS is key..

Earth has a mass of 5.972 × 10^24 kg and it's made out of iron nickel alloy. It's been around for 4 1/2 billion years so I'm not worried about it ending anytime soon. It really seems to be built to last.
I don't think I'm a prepper and I don't think I'm liberal or conservative but my husband and I have made plans as best we could in case of a disaster. We have enough canned food in our cellar to last a long time.
