    I hear some people say that, although I don't see it that way. To me love is what makes all the other hurts fade away and become bearable.

    Specifically---spousal love.

    Love itself doesn't hurt.

    However, true intimacy is rarely polite.  And people who love are usually more open and vulnerable to their spouses and tend to keep their guards lower against inadvertent pain.

    But the potential benefits of such a relationship far exceed any pain.

    It won't be the love itself that hurts, it will be someone taking advantage of the other which again isn't love. Love itself doesn't hurt. IMO.
