Spam was a hero during WW2. It was just about the only fresh meat a soldier could get in combat conditions. My father introduced it to us. In fact, I bought a couple of cans last week.(25% less sodium) I make it into sandwiches. Tasty!

They might associate the word differently than you, and some of the others did.
