Is there a movie, an older movie, an iconic movie that you remember going to the theaters to watch?

My dad took me to watch it when I was little, I didn't know what we were going to watch, or the impact it was going to have for the rest of my life. Hearing the first couple of notes of the main theme, still gives me goosebumps. Even now, watching the trailer makes me want to run out the door and punch sides of hanging beef.

I've only seen parts of "Patton" --  I've liked the parts I've seen. I especially like the movie's music theme by Jerry Goldsmith.

IMO, Patton, The Longest Day, and Saving Private Ryan are the best WWII films ever made.

I've seen "Saving Private Ryan" but not the other two.
Knowing my personality, and knowing how difficult being a soldier would be, and how I respect people who have been through such warfare (some are my closest friends) war films are hard for me.

Maybe you'll remember this scene in "Saving Private Ryan." It's the scene that stayed the most memorable for me. (And maybe it's a strange scene to have impacted me so much but it did.) What I remember (I've only seen the movie once) - - the camera is filming from behind the mother of the Ryan boys; almost at floor level of the front porch at an out-in-the-country home. And a government car is pulling into the driveway and we see the mother collapse. I'm pretty sure it all happens without a spoken word by anyone.

Indeed. I especially remember that scene and the one near the beginning on the beach where the guy has his face blown off.

Oh, wow, thanks Stu. I'm glad I described the scene well enough. That mother collapsing -- just shakes me to the core.

I do think I remember that beach scene, too.
I liked that movie a lot but it was difficult to watch for me. And, like I said, I only saw the movie once.

Sounds like you might really enjoy The Longest Day. Amazing cast, including Eddie Albert, Paul Anka, Red Buttons, Richard Burton, Sean Connery, Robert Mitchum, Rod Steiger, and John Wayne.

Never much cared for those kinds of movies some people think are iconic.  I more like the ones that tell a simple every-day story with feeling and honesty.
