  • Not at all.  I have no idea why people get caught up in the Celebrity Cult.

  • Neither do I. It amazes me that so many people go crazy for this stuff.

  • The most annoying part is people one knows who are fascinated by it and wont shut up about celebrity gossip even after you repeatedly tell them you don't care.

I just don't care where Mila Kunis was last weekend and who she was with.  It wasn't with me and it wasn't in my bed.

No, not at all. I am too busy.
Probably for various reasons. It takes the focus off of their own life. It gives them pleasure to see celebrities fail, and be humanized or humbled. They don't have enough to do in their own lives.
I live in L.A. near Hollywood. I sometimes think we are in a celebrity bubble and think that maybe the fascination in celebrities isn't as rampant in other countries. I've often wondered if that's true.

  • We're not.   We aren't even the most affected by it.  In Japan for example it's even bigger.

Do you know if in Japan they are obseessed with our celebrities or their own? Or both?

  • Not sure about the ones here, but their own.   The performers in Japanese Idol industry especially.   It's some next level celebrity obsession.

  • I live in Nashville, another celebrity Mecca. We don't pester them as much here though. Not a lot of paparazzi here at all.

Maybe it's that some of these people don't have a life and can only live through others lives. Not me though.

  • I think that is a big reason for it. My favorite tabloid is no longer in print, The Weekly World News. It wasn't about celebrities, it was about Big Foot, Aliens and Bat Boy. It was so far out there and so fake that i just couldn't get enough of it. :)

Hi Karen, people becomes overly involved with the details of a celebrity's personal and professional life because they fantasize about these celebrities. There are a few TV channels exclusively covering these famous lives, everytime you stand at the cash counter to pay for your groceries, there are those huge tabloids luring you with their bold headlines;)) This post was edited by Veena.K at January 9, 2017 3:12 AM MST

  • Those don't interest me. The only one I liked is out of print. It's online, but it isn't the same. I really enjoyed The Weekly World News. I miss reading the hard copies of it, it was crazy!! :)

  • Same here. If they do something news worthy I don't mind reading about it, but their every day lives just don't interest me.

  • Because their own lives are hollow and unfulfilling so they get caught up in the lives of others.

I really don't know why people do this, but I can tell you that if I never read the name Kardashian again, my life will be immeasurably improved.
