  • Yes, I have. I participated in protests against Chancellor Katehi and the campus police after the famous UC Davis pepper spray incident. I was a member of student government at the time too. I absolutely support peaceful protest.

I have. It's a democratic right (if authorities are informed, at least where I live) and tool to show sympathies and/or protest to a certain issue.

  • In 1973, I was one of many at the Down-to Earth festival at Cotter River, just outside Canberra in Australia.

Thousands of us marched for peace and against nuclear weapons to the plaza outside the Ministry of Defense.

With us were young mothers with strollers and papoose packs, stilt-walkers, jugglers, camels, people with all kinds of musical instruments and others with film cameras.

We didn't just walk, we danced and sang and played music all the way there.

When we arrived, we sat and sang John Lennin's "Give Peace a Chance."

The mood was wonderful. It created a natural high.

No one from the ministry came out to talk to us.

After about an hour, we simply rose and walked back to the festival.

It did get onto the news that night, and that was enough, just to let people know what a bunch of us felt.

Others went on to become members of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, especially the lawyers in the crowd.

They never achieved their full goals, but they did help to start the talks to reduce proliferation.

One of my son's closest friends attended UC Davis back in the day when my son attended Cal Berkeley. That seems so very very long ago and far away Nevan. Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday!

I participated in four protests against nuclear arms during the 1980s. I supported the cause then and I still do. Happy Saturday, Rosie!:)
