My cats won't eat chicken. Are they broken?

I ran out of cat food yesterday and my cats are used to having dry food all the time. I didn't have time to go to the store, so I cooked them some chicken instead, thinking they'd be all excited they were getting a treat. No. The little ingrates only ate a little and then cried by their dish until I got them some more dry cat food. What gives?

    I never had a cat that didn't like chicken, I would boil some once a week for them, they also liked a little gravy.

    I actually read earlier today that cats can "imprint" on their diet and do not like to change it.

    lol That reminds me of one of mine. He sits on top of the refrigerator and bats me in the head when I walk by if he wants something.

  • I had a cat. Once. She would hurry and get on the roof of the house when I came from work and jump on my shoulders when I walked by. Everyday.

  • Oh no,no, no.
    I have four rescue dogs. Well three rescue and a stolen one. I don't really understand cats. The one I had,I did because I found her when she was little, at a gas station. I couldn't just leave  there. But that's been the only one. Thanks for the offer, tho. )

  • My dog is the same way.. most dogs would go xrazy over a steak or meat in general but she doesn't eat such stuff.

  • All the other answers (escept Plingsby's, of course) are flawed. They all assume that cats are domestic pets but this is not true. They are devil's spawn, put on this planet to be the familiar spirits of witches. When they can't find a witch to look after them they infiltrate themselves into the homes of kind, unsuspecting, gullible people and make their lives hell.

    Be grateful that your cats are only be obstinate about food. So far. One night, as you sleep, they will silently stalk into your bedroom, leap onto your bed and then, claws bared, will creep closer and closer to your throat... 

    Why don't you get a dog instead, JA? They're the real deal.

    They are creatures of habit.  You over-domesticated them.    They are like the rabbit that sits in the cage after the door is open.   Cats do not like change.  Nope not at all.   You hear about the ones who travel hundreds of miles to get home?  I think that is why.

  • Not sure they're broken, as I had a dog that wouldn't eat liver flavored anything! If one of the flavors in her dog food was liver, I'd have the liver pieces all over the floor as she'd spit them out!
