Russia is about to decriminalise domestic violence. Check this article in today's Guardian. What are your thoughts?

Fits very well into the mindset of Putin. Russia becomes less and less interesting to pay a visit. Civil rights is a joke.

  • There may be a couple of Eastern European who would follow suit but this really does bring Russia even lower in the world hierarchy.

Do I have to read something or is this serious?   I'm sure Russia is not letting men beat their wives.   You need to prove this accusation.   Where is the proof?  Where is the site?

Links aren't by very visible unless you change typography, colour or something. Your link looks like plain text in all fairness to Sharonna.

It wasn't there before, I am sorry.  I will read it.  I have a creepy feeling you may be right and I don't want to admit it.  This is disgraceful if it is true.  I will be back.

    Thank you for your patience.

WAIT. DIDGE? NO SITE POSTED BY YOU.

  • Sorry, the link didn't stand out particularly well. I went back and put it in boldface type with a blue background.

I couldn't find the Guardian article, but I read the one from Time. I don't know what I am more appalled over.1. The fact that two women authored the bill. 2.They did it so they can hit their children. 3. That an attack on a woman on the street was already decriminalized last year.

WTH? I guess it is a good thing they have universal healthcare since people are beating their women and children. at least they can get patched back up. smh.

  • It's a giant step backward, Gator. Dunno why the link didn't work; it works OK for me. I'm sure the story will break in all the major news outlets during the day.

That is truly disturbing and disgusting.. Abuse of any kind to those who are not able to defend themselves should never be allowed., ANYWHERE!

I agree about government overstepping into families and private homes.  Domestic abuse laws go too far in many cases.  I don't see pulling back a particularly horrible thing.

  • You might change your mind if you were the victim of domestic violence.

I look through attorney eyes.  You have no idea what I might have been through in my life.  My answer is my opinion.

  • You're right, I don't. It was an inappropriate comment. But I've seen battered women and I certainly don't want to make it easier for the wife-beaters to get away with their bullying.
