What do you think of a recent study which found that given the choice of dating a guy who is 6'2", has an IQ well below average, and who is unemployed and a drug addict, or a guy who is

5'5" tall, has an IQ of 128 and a job that pays over $50,000 per year with full medical, dental and retirement benefits, most women would choose the slow-witted, unemployed 6'2" drug addict?

Women of child-bearing age don't choose wisely because nature makes us seek strong protectors who can take care of a family (hunting and fighting off predators).  That's the truth.  Tall and strong wins.  Right around 40  women start losing  that instinct when looking for a mate.

Must have references. I am the second guy (a bit taller) and most women I know would choose him.

Oh I would really like to see said survey because I call BS. Aww that is cute some jacked up survey can speak for all women. I don't care how tall someone is, I sure don't care about what their IQ score is, I make my own money  therefore that is out too. I look for how I am treated. Being loved & respected, & not being made a fool of mean more to me than anything.

I would say that the recent study was carried out in a predominantly chav area. Most of the women I socialise with would choose the other option.

And how would a drug addict measure up to those requirements?

I'm talking about natural instinct in preparation for creation and protection of a family.  Addiction is something man came up with having nothing to do with nature and it doesn't change natural instinct.  It takes many people out of the whole realm of possibility even if the addict would attract a mate, a smart prospective mate would use their strength of character to trump instinct and stay away from the addict.

That is because most women who would do any dating  survey have lower IQ's than that,  or else are emotionally retarded.

That is JUST NOT TRUE unless you are brain-dead.  Or in your 20's.  Same thing.

@LIl Princess -- I would ***love*** to believe you, and it may be true in your individual case.

But I have had multiple conversations with women who expressed similar sentiments to yours with respect to what they want in a mate, and when I've asked them to imagine, "OK, there's a guy who has all of those traits. He's 5'4" tall, weighs 280 lbs, and works as an assitant manager at a Taco Bell" the amount of backpedaling those women have done was impressive to behold.

There are reasons certain women get selected for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and there are reasons the central male character in 50 Shades of Grey is a handsome youngish billionaire. Sure, there is individual variation, but there are also significant commonalities in what men and women like.  It's OK to acknowledge that.

I would take the short guy. Assuming he is a good guy. I have always been attracted to shorter guys. I am kind of short myself but interestingly my husband is 6'2". lol
