Andy, No, I don't think all the officers on duty would be women. Dictionary.com defines "policeman" as a member of a police force or body so that would also include women. (I didn't check all online dictionaries) ;)
My old school dictionary (1970 edition of the Pocket Oxford Dictionary) defines the word "man" as an adult male. Therefore, logically speaking, the word "policeman" would be defined as a male police officer and that would not also include women. That is why there is such a word as "policewoman". I simply answered your question as you posted it. If your question had said "What would life be like if all the police officers went on strike?" with no reference to gender in it, my answer would have been different. I guess it's my typical British education and upbringing, I take these things literally. Lol:)
My area has to call on the cops rarely. The big cities where the orchestrated "hate cops" movement is going on would probably succumb to utter chaos and have a great population reduction. You can decide if you think that would be a bad thing or not.
