It's important to have a good sense of humor, too bad the democrats don't have one ,they still take the loss too serious and are becoming basket cases, what's with that? is it contagious?  maybe we could give them their own state and call it  Loonville.

  • Rosie, I used to work in Sydney's Amex Building and on the floor above my company was a very high-class accounting firm. One day two men and a woman, all in their fifties, boarded the elevator. They were laughing and when they stopped the woman said, "Look, I've only been here for a month and I haven't stopped laughing the whole time. What gives?" And one of the men said, "It's such a high pressure job that if we didn't laugh we'd go nuts."

    It's a great safety valve.

But boss or workers? I couldn't say. I've always been a worker and found a sense of humour got me through a lot of grim stuff. The boss (well, various bosses) didn't really appreciate it.

I've always been a worker too my friend and I guess I have been blessed with having several bosses with jolly good senses of humor! A couple were kinda stern but knowledgeable and fair so I had no problem with them. We all have different personalities and some bosses feel that they have to maintain distance from their employees and that was always fine with me.The problems I had were co-workers. The occasional one who is a troublemaker and will stir up trouble. Once you identify them you're polite/aloof/uninvolved and hope they leave. The most fun job I ever had was with the smartest/coolest boss I ever had. Coincidence? I think not! I remember we were under pressure once and he asked if we would all work a full day Saturday! He was the  Chief Financial Officer and we were all accounting types! Well he was the kind of boss you'd do anything for because he always had your back and you knew he was on your side. So we're there working diligently and it's about 5pm. (Our workday had started at 8am. We were staying until that job was done) SATURDAY! He shows up with pizzas for all and sodas and says we gotta stop working and eat. The jocularity there was awesome. When we went back to work about 6pm or so we were all happy as clams. He was right there too!  Available for guidance/question answering/whatever. On a SATURDAY! It only happened once but strangely enough that has been one of the highlights of my working life. That SATURDAY! There were several dozen of us all pulling together to get the job done and meet the deadline and we did! Honestly Didge that was 30 years ago and I remember it so vividly it could have been last Saturday! :)

  • The highlights that stick in the memory, don't they? I've had some good work memories too, and some not so good. They're all woven together in a single fabric.
