Is (or was) your mother much taller than your father?

No , not at all. My Dad was about 6' 1" and my Mom was maybe 5' 1". My brother was over six feet but I managed to top out at 5' 10". Best I could do.

Nah, my mother is much shorter than my father was. I'm like an average of their heights at 5'5.

Nope.  Both my parents are 5.5in. tall.  My family is pretty short on both sides.  Somehow I came out at 6ft 1in.

Don't know who my father was either, but step dad was taller than her.

Nah, they were both short: 5'6 and 5'0.  I hold them responsible for my own vertical deprivation. 

Ogden Nash put it this way:

It gets kind of naughty after that, but you get the idea...

both my parents were short so im short too, only one of my brothers ended up being tall

No.  My mom was 5 foot 1 inch when I was born and my dad was 5 foot 10 inches and swore he would always be 5 foot 10 inches.  She has now shrunk to 4 ft 11 inches.  .  Even after 50 years of marriage, my dad has held to his word.  He is still 5 foot 10 inches. 
She shrunk.  He didn't.  How does that work??
