If a thirty-something male has to take a statin as part of his daily medication, is that a sign that he messed up bigly, and sucks at life?

     Not necessarily.  He may be one of those people who naturally produces cholesterol.  My mom who has always eaten very healthy has a high cholesterol count even on medication.  My dad, who had the worst diet imaginable, never met a vegetable he liked and probably kept Entenmann's Bakery from going bankrupt, had a low count.  Go figure.

    Ok. But what if the high LDL is from unhealthy eating?

    Then he can correct the problem.  The point is that you can eat very healthy and still have high cholesterol or eat great and still need statins.

    no, high cholesterol probably runs in your family, it runs in mine and i have to take it
