I am of the opinion that one of the greatest gifts you can give your children is to teach them how to think, not what to think.
I so often hear people complain that the "public school system is dumbing-down kids," but that couldn't possibly exist in a society of parents that teach their children how to think, to question... everything. Teach them to never accept a statement at face-value, dig, find out, subject all information to rigorous scrutiny, but especially the information they like.
There are so many cognitive distortions they will encounter from so many people throughout their lives, without the ability to notice and outright reject any and all attempts a mental manipulation, they're left blind.
No one can spare them that but their parents. jmho
