It is a very old idea hartfire. We are all God and God is in all of us. Collectively. The Bible is not the word of God. It is a collection of stories over many decades by a variety of people each of whom had a different agenda. Here's the difficulty with that idea. That would mean that Hitler is God and terrorists are God and murderers/torturers are all God. Each of us is a part of the whole and we call that whole God. I find it difficult to accept that a Hitler is part of God. We will never know the truth while alive. We probably won't know the truth after death but that is something no one who is currently alive knows. We have opinions. Everyone has an opinion. What you do is believe/accept what makes sense to you. I cannot conceive of praying to Hitler or all the racists/bigots/homophobic hatemongers there are in the world. Religion is a crutch to help us get through life. Humans have many crutches. Alcohol, drugs, sex among them. We use them as crutches to get through every day. Some crutches are harmful..some are less so. I don 't know if I answered your question. When I talk to God I talk to a higher power beyond what is known to me
. I think I mentioned to you a theory that the world/universe may be multi-dimensional. Ten dimensions perhaps. We can only perceive 3 dimensions. The answers to all the mysteries may well exist in those 7 other dimensions. I think that makes more sense than anything else. The answers are out there. But our limitations prevent us from accessing them. That would explain miracles for example. How we choose to get through life defines us. Whether everything about our lives was predestined at conception I cannot say. I go with what makes sense to me and I reject that which doesn't. Don't you? :)
Please don't take my comment offensively. When I say dismissive,I meant that you brush aside considerations against porn, without ever seen it. I really don't have an argument against not having to experience something to have an opinion. I agree with that partially.
I think that the only substitute for hands on experience is research. And I don't think you have done any. I think you're coming from the point of view of the state infringing in our liberties, and looking at it that way, I'd have to wholeheartedly agree with you. I DO NOT want the state telling me what to watch or think. Had that been the question, I'd have probably given a different response, but since the question alluded directly to porn I responded accordingly.
I'm afraid that your "in the privacy of your home" argument may be a little weak considering the amount of activities not permitted even in the privacy of your own home.
I object to porn in two ways, one is a visceral disgust at some of the practices , and the other is in terms of its social effects on the young.
By you not having watched it, you don't have the experience, and by not looking into it, you don't have the knowledge. Therefore you dismiss all that, for the privacy of my home freedom defense.
Did you know that since the coming of the internet and easy access to porn, the incidence of Erectile Dysfuntion in College men, has been on a constant rise? College!! You know. things like that.
Please, don't get me wrong, I'm not attacking you, because I understand your point, but I'd be interested in your point of view after you have looked into it a little deeper. Your friend. ..Not Harry.
