Admitting that you "ain't all that" is a very positive personality trait.

  • Dear Veena.K,

As shocked...shocked as I might pretend to be that you are unfamiliar with antipodean antipodes, truthfully I did not know either until I met Didge in 2011 (at which time he was known as Dozy).

Now get him to tell you about the bunyips, the secateurs, and the collywobbles...I used to keep a list, a whole new vocabulary!

No, I don't hate it. In fact, most people love to enlighten me about things they know more about than I do. If someone thinks less of me for my ignorance, then I have learned something about their character.

  • No not at all, where not expected to know everything, & if we attempted to show we knew everything, then we'd be full of crap.

If you had of asked me what "antipodean" meant two weeks ago, I wouldn't of had the faintest idea, I only found out by chance.

Yes Austrans, but that's what people do, they attempt to show they know everything...I framed this question with that idea in mind...I could have just googled the word and acted all bright....but I didn't,..thank you for a wonderful answer! I possess enough wackiness to mask my ignorance. Antipodean means; ' creatures with no feet.'

Indeed you are right, people mask their ignorance, admitting that one doesn't know something is becoming a rarity;))

No, I'm not averse to admitting I don't know something.  Having said that, however, if you have access to a computer, there is really very little reason in this day and age to be ignorant about most things.  "Google it" is not just a fun phrase.  It's a means by which to enlighten yourself.

I agree....one can enlighten oneself with google, I just want to probe human psyche, people usually don't like to admit their ignorance........isnt that so;))

It's so if they don't have much self-confidence.  A person who is self-assured has no problem admitting they don't know something.
