All Armenians KNOW about the Armenian Genocide. All Jewish folks KNOW about the HOLOCAUST. Don't all African Americans KNOW about slavery?

How can you not know about the history of your people no matter what age you are or what experiences you personally have had? Further, educated people regardless of their ethnic backgrounds know about such things as well. I don't get it. How can you be ignorant about your own past history/ancestors and what they went through?

    I'm not quite sure how they wouldn't, to be completely frank.  Absent any family history......or total inattention in school......or staying under your particular rock......I haven't a clue.

    Did you hear Ben Carson's speech? He equated slaves in the bottom of ships who were captive and forced to come to America as slaves with immigrants who dreamed of a better life for their children in America! What an ignoramus he is! Thank you for your reply Sugar!  :)

    He waxed poetic about the dreams these slaves had for giving their children better lives in America! I could not believe the extent of his ignorance! They were taken from their homes, confined to ships  and faced lives as slaves in a foreign country. They only dreamed of going back home. How could he not know that? Where did he go to school? Was he not paying attention? What schools did he attend that they would not have covered that? Did his brain go on hiatus or was he so wrapped up in what he was saying that he got way off track? He should be totally embarrassed but he gave an excuse and tried to justify/rationalize it. It was a really bad screw  up! It would have bad enough had someone other than an African American said it. That's the way it goes these days though. Pols open their mouths and noise comes out which doesn't always make sense! Thank you for your reply Sugar! :)

    That is a can of worms you opened.  In the two examples you mentioned, there is someone or group to blame. But, slavery is considered bad, and if you are teaching it in school, then you want to blame someone/group. But it ends up as us and them.. black and white. Which can cause problems. Does that mean the white man is bad? You cannot suggest that in school to impressionable young people. So it is basically ignored.  It is easier to leave it out of the studies.
       So how does the African American learn about slavery?  You get down to it, how does any child learn about slavery in the US? They do not. It is being forgotten. 
       This is not true just in the US, almost every country has its past that is forgotten or hidden. If you do not know it happened, you cannot look it up on the internet, for you do not know the questions to ask.

    Did you hear the speech Ben Carson gave? He talked about "immigrants in the bottom of slave ships." He equated the conscripted slaves who wanted to be at home with immigrants who willingly came to America. That is the backstory here. He seemed clueless about slavery and waxed poetic about how they DREAMED of a better life for their children in America. What bullsh**! They were captives and dreamed of going back home. He came off as an ignorant fatuous dumbhead. That's why I asked the question Maurice. All the things you mention may be true but I don't see how they relate to the question I asked.     Sorry, I did not know you were referring to this person. I read up on him just now, and I understand where you are coming from. I thought this question was a general question about the knowledge of slavery.

    They say there was far more English , Irish ,Welsh and Scottish people/criminals sent to America ,Australia and god knows what other  as cheap slave labour than Africans Rosie......,only the West Indies native Indian were treated as the worst of the bunch......again I've read that African slaves were treated far far better then those from Europe ......

    I also read last week that the Red Cross has just released sealed documents kept seceret for the last seventy odd years stating the actual number of people killed in the holocaust and the numbers were more around 250,000 rather than the Six million that's others claimed to have died....., 

    i myself don't know but would never believe anyone in Goverment or any large corporation,police and army............. They all lie to protect their jobs,wealth ,power. ......the biggest liars are also the church.....,the most wealthiest people in the word  ......

    I'm stunned NJ. 250,000? Not six million? I tend to think that's bullsh**  but of course I don't KNOW since I wasn't there. There are some folks who say the holocaust NEVER HAPPENED at all. There are some who say we never walked on the moon. There are some who say climate change is hoax. I guess we believe whatever makes sense to us and what the truth really is we may never know.     I don't know for sure either Rosie. I wasn't born until the late eighties.....google the Red Cross hidden or secretly papers about it....it was only discover or divulged a week  or so ago.......

    they didnt nt say it never happened.......just about the numbers involved.....

    I believe the English first invented concentration camps during the Boar War In Africa .....also partly to blame for slaughtering the indidunious population of America to steal thier land and minerals.......most likely the English have been some of the worse barbarians the world has ever known....
