Southern Illinois had these freaking corn silos that had rotten corn in them and it smelled so rotten and spread for miles. And they were nowhere near the size of an average landfill that typically can be 20 football fields in size.
Then I remember a landfill in, I think, Coral Gables, Florida, that ruined the property value of all the surrounding homes for several miles. I don't know how they can just allow that kind of thing. But they do. $$$$$$
I built a house on top of an old dumping area. I kept digging up old blue glass bottles and tin cans. Nothing too nasty. It was like 75+ years old. We lived there for several years with no problems. The General Motors Truck Assembly plant in Fort Wayne, Indiana is powered by methane gas that comes from a nearby landfill.
