As much as we whine about the widening gap between rich and poor what about gaps that have been closed?

Once was a time when only the rich went to school. Only the rich had tv. Only the rich flew by aeroplane. Owning a car was rich. Owning land made you wealthy. Electricity and running water was only to be had in mansions. So you see that no matter how much money the rich have they no longer buy things you have no access to. That is the success of our times.

    Hello O:

The gaps that have been closed are opening up again.  And, you're right...  For the ENTIRE history of the world, the rich OWNED all of it..  The American experience changed that dynamic, if only temporarily..

Methink technology and mass production have closed many gaps. The gaps that are left are gaps of privilege and excess not so much access unless we are talking politics and influence. This post was edited by O-uknow at March 9, 2017 7:16 AM MST

  • What gaps are those that have been closed?
You know? I went looked that up. And would you know that the gap between the rich and the poor is at an all times record high?
During the eighties, the top ten percent made about seven times as much as the lower ten percent. Today, they make ten times as much.
So, maybe some people have a reason to whine... a little...
